If I wear quick-drying walking trousers does that mean I needn’t take waterproof overtrousers on a changeable day?
Rohan’s Long Preston Store Manager, Alex, gives us his preference on what to wear when out on the hills.
Depending on the season or even the day, my usual kit would include a trouser like the Lowland. I find that it dries incredibly quickly (when for example you have just walked through a very boggy section of the path!) with my natural body heat and the quick drying features such as DMC (which due to the construction of the garment, spreads the moisture to a larger surface area so it dries quicker) I feel drier, quicker.
If through the day the rain becomes more persistent I tend to keep a lightweight, packable overtrouser like the Vapour Trail, to keep on in heavy rain.
In the cooler months my favoured option would be a fully waterproof trouser that I can keep on all day, like the Dry Requisites, as they do a fantastic job of keeping the wind and the rain off me when up in the hills and are then presentable enough for the pub grub at the end of the walk!
