Are lighter boots or more supportive boots less tiring on a long day walk?
This completely depends on the terrain and to some extent the person. On the whole for us mortals, walking on well drained good flat paths with a lighter boot like SCARPA’s brand new and first ever vegan friendly Maverick GTX will indeed be less tiring.
However as soon as the angle steepens and the terrain becomes more technical (Rocky/Muddy/Snow/Ice) then a more supportive boot will help take the strain off the body compared to a lighter less supportive boot. Try the SCARPA SL Active if you’re looking for more support.
Alternatively, if you are a Mountain Ninja with a trophy cabinet of fell running accolades then you will be strong enough, fit enough and have the experience to use a lighter weight boot in technical terrain. Be honest with yourself and your abilities. Turning an ankle on a Mountain side is a serious proposition!
Although we may be restricted to how much we can get out, we can still use our time to help reach our goals by giving our boots some much needed TLC and get them back in tip top condition. Read this blog on how to clean and reproof your boots.
