Londoner Lizzie Huckle, 40 got some memorable miles climbing her first mountain in aid of Cystic Fibrosis!
Did raising money help motivate you to complete your 1000 miles?
Yes!
What good cause did you raise money for and what did you do?
I did the Lakes 4 Peaks challenge for the Cystic Fibrosis Trust. I roped my best friend into doing it with me so we wanted to raise money for a charity we both had some personal connection with.
Why did you particularly want to support that cause?
A mutual very good friend Rosie had a little boy a couple of years ago who was born with CF. It has been humbling to see how they are coping with what is effectively a life sentence – there is no cure. But the Cystic Fibrosis Trust is working to make huge improvements for the quality of life of individuals and their families who have been affected.
How did it go?
It was bloody hard! Neither of us are mountain climbers and I had only started walking via #walk1000miles challenge in January and our challenge was in May. The weather could have made a difference but unfortunately halfway up 3 of the peaks the weather set in and we were battered with hail and pouring rain. That said, my overwhelming feeling afterwards was one of utter satisfaction and a sense of achievement.
How much did you raise?
The final total between us was £2601. Our target had been £1500 so we were delighted to smash it out of the park!
How did it feel?
I think it really touched Rosie that we wanted to do this for her and little Tom, especially as she knows how lazy we normally are! Having seen just what level of support she has had from the Cystic Fibrosis Trust it is great to know that we have helped in some small way to ensure other families get access to help.
Any tips?
Choose something people don't think you would normally be able to do! They are much more likely to donate if they think you are bonkers. Also it is so important to have some personal connection as to why you have chosen a specific charity.Yes definitely!
