1000-mile community member Lisa Simpson made a brilliant suggestion: that on the day of his funeral (yet to be announced) we pledge to walk our miles in memory of Captain Tom. It’s a fantastic and appropriate idea to which we add the following suggestion. Let’s ‘sponsor ourselves’ and pledge to match the miles we walk that day with money we donate either to Captain Tom’s Foundation or to a charity of special meaning to you.

Captain Sir Tom Moore came to his country’s aid in its hour of greatest need twice, and perhaps more than anyone symbolises the spirit of hope over fear and the power of humble walking to achieve extraordinary things. Let’s remember him the best way possible – by extending his legacy of walking for good.

How to take part

1) Pledge to walk your miles for Captain Tom on Saturday 27th February, the day of his funeral .

You can share the ‘I’m walking for Captain Tom’ image on your social media to confirm your participation if you’d like.

2) Match your miles with money – £1, £5 or whatever money you can afford per mile.

3) Donate that amount to his foundation or a charity of your choice.

4) Post the miles you walked, and the cause you donated to, in the comments on this thread.
