The White to Dark Way is a sensational 27-mile trail through some of the very best scenery in the Peak District.

It’s called the White to Dark because it takes you from the limestone-rich dales of the White Peak, up to the mighty gritstone scarps of the Dark Peak, starting in the historic town of Bakewell and finishing in the village of Hope, in the beautiful Hope Valley.

It’s designed to be walked over three days, with overnight stops in Litton and Hathersage.

Highlights along the way include:

The Monsal Trail – a former railway trackbed (with walkable tunnels) leading to the incredible viewpoint of Monsal Head

Gorgeous Cressbrook Dale, home of the remarkable Peter’s Stone

The historic village of Eyam, whose residents quarantined themselves in 1666 to save others from the Great Plague

The iconic escarpment of Stanage Edge

The great sweep of Ladybower Reservoir

…and a final flourish on the summit of Win Hill.

Plus all sorts of hidden delights along the way – and some really lovely pubs and cafés too.

On this page you can find all the details to help you walk the trail. So take a look, get planning, and welcome to the White to Dark!
